So, after a very successful trailer shoot for “The Last to Fall”, the Fina L’eau ladies are at it again. This time, we’re tackling a short film we co-wrote called “Sacrifice”, which is based on the short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce. How did THAT happen? Well..
After the holidays, we were throwing around the idea of writing and shooting a short. We went back and forth on a couple of ideas, but none of them were feeling like shorts. A while back, Melissa had brought this story to me and we talked about adapting it into a feature. While ultimately we’d still like to do that, we both decided it was the best idea to write as a short. We both think it’s a beautiful and powerful story that we could contemporize and make into a great short film.
In our typical fashion, we wrote the script in 2 days. Since then it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. We started reaching out to potential cast and crew, created a schedule and a budget, we researched what it takes to work with unions, to get permits, the whole 9. It’s a lot to take on with just the 2 of us, but we’re really passionate about this project and will do whatever we can to get it made. We’ve both been taking on jobs that we’d never thought we would, but we know it’s what we have to do at this stage of the game. Melissa has been a champ getting the website built, reaching out to the Army and getting cast and crew signed on. I’ve become great friends with an insurance man named Stan and the woman at the CA film commission office knows me by name.
We’re going to launch a kickstarter next week to raise the money that we’re going to need to not only make this movie, but to pay everyone involved, and to distribute it to all the top festivals. We’ll need all of your help and support in spreading the word and raising all of the necessary funds.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on all pre-production things. Until then, t-minus 7 days to launch. Get ready.
